Learn more about our online course

When should I update my TABC certification?

Your TABC certification remains valid for 2 years from the date of issuance. To ensure compliance with Texas law, it’s recommended to renew your certification before the expiration date printed on your Certificate. This ensures uninterrupted compliance with state regulations regarding food handling.

How long does it take to renew my TABC certification?

Taking the TABC training course to renew your TABC certification typically takes about an hour to complete.

Will I receive a new TABC certificate after renewing my certification?

Yes, upon successful completion of the renewal course, you will be issued a new TABC certificate. This certificate will feature an updated expiration date, valid for another two years from the course completion date. Your updated certificate will be promptly emailed to you, and you can access and download it anytime through your dashboard while it remains valid.

Do I need to retake the entire TABC training course for renewal, or are there shorter options available?

Yes, for certification renewal, you will need to retake the entire TABC Certification Course. The course content is periodically updated to align with the requirements set by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), ensuring you receive the most current information on food safety practices.

How much does it cost to update my TABC certification?

The regular price to take the Texas Food Handler course is $8.95. However, as a gesture of appreciation for our returning students, we offer a $1.00 discount. Therefore, the cost for renewal is only $7.95.

How do I renew my TABC Certification?

Renewing your TABC Certification is straightforward. Begin by visiting the TABC certification website and logging in with your email address and password. Once logged in, navigate to your dashboard and select the “RENEW COURSE” option. Review the pre-filled student information to ensure accuracy; if any details need updating, make the necessary changes before proceeding to checkout.

In case you’ve forgotten your password from two years ago, don’t worry. Simply click on “Forgot password?” on the login page, enter your email address, and follow the prompts to reset your password. Once your password is reset, you can proceed with the renewal process as outlined above.

Is there a grace period for updating my TABC certification after it expires?

Texas regulations mandate food servers to complete an accredited food handler training course within 30 days of commencing a food-handling job. However, if you’re currently employed in a food-handling role, there isn’t a designated grace period for updating after certification expiration. It’s crucial to update your certification before the expiration to ensure continuous compliance with state regulations and seamless continuation of your food handling duties.

I didn’t know what to really expect before taking the TABC certification course. Learning Texas law, effects of alcohol on customers, the correct way to check ID’s, etc, etc. were all new to me. I’m so glad I took the course and would definitely recommend it to anyone serving alcohol. It could really help you avoid a BIG mistake for you or someone else.

The site was easy to navigate, the course and test were no problem. It took me about 2 hours to complete and pass the Final Test. Would recommend.
